Misoprostol treats and prevents colonic ulcers by protecting the stomach lining and also decreasing stomach acid formation.  Misoprostol is one of the only drugs to actually treat colonic (hind end) ulcers.  65% of all horses have colonic ulcers.  Misoprostol is a synthetic form of a prostaglandin.
