Longamox 100ml

Longamox 100ml is amoxicillin trihydrate, a semi-synthetic antibiotic belonging to the penicillin group. Amoxicillin has a bactericidal action: it acts through the inhibition of synthesis of the cell wall of bacteria in growth phase Lixotinic. The active ingredient is amoxicillin in extended-release formulation.

Active Ingredient and Concentration

Longamox 100ml contains amoxicillin trihydrate, typically at a concentration of 150mg/ml (15%). This is similar to other long-acting amoxicillin formulations used in veterinary medicine.

Longamox 100ml Target Species

Primary indications are for infections caused by organisms sensitive to amoxicillin in cattle and sheep. Similar long-acting amoxicillin formulations are used across multiple species including cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs, and cats.

Mechanism of Action

Amoxicillin is a penicillin-like antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis during the growth phase, leading to bacterial cell death (bactericidal action).

Indications

Infections due to organisms sensitive to Amoxicillin including treatment of respiratory infections due to Pasteurella multocida and Pasteurella haemolytica, and treatment of respiratory infections due to Pasteurella multocida and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae.

Common uses include:

Respiratory tract infections

Skin and soft tissue infections

Urinary tract infections

Mastitis

Other bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms

Dosage and Administration

Based on similar long-acting amoxicillin formulations:

Standard Dosing:

The recommended dosage rate is 15 mg per kg bodyweight, equivalent to 1 ml per 10 kg bodyweight to be repeated once after 48 hours. Amoxicillin 15% is administered to animals intramuscularly or subcutaneously at a dose of 1 ml per 10 kg of animal weight (15 mg per kg).

Longamox 100ml Administration Route:

Intramuscular injection (primary route)

Subcutaneous injection (alternative route)

Injection Volume Limitations:

Maximum injection volume per injection site is 20 ml. A separate injection site should be used for each administration.

Repeat Dosing:

The recommended dosage rate is 15mg per kg bodyweight, (1ml/10kg bodyweight) repeatable if necessary after 48 hours. A separate injection site should be used for each administration.

Long-Acting Properties

The long acting formulation allows the antibiotic to reach and maintain effective levels of Amoxicillin for 48 hours with excellent diffusion and high concentration into all tissues after single administration through intramuscular route.

Withdrawal Periods

Meat: cattle: 15 days, pigs: 42 days. Withdrawal periods may vary by manufacturer and should always be verified on the specific product label.

Storage Requirements

Store at a temperature below 25°C. Protect from light. Store in a dry place.

Dosage Accuracy Longamox 100ml

To ensure the correct dosage, bodyweight should be determined as accurately as possible to avoid underdosing. Longamox 100ml

Spectrum of Activity

In contrast to penicillin G, it presents a broad spectrum toward gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Amoxicillin is effective against many common veterinary pathogens including Pasteurella species, Streptococcus species, and other susceptible bacteria.

Clinical Considerations

Always perform susceptibility testing when possible

Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve

Monitor for allergic reactions, especially in animals with known penicillin sensitivity

Proper injection technique is important to minimize tissue irritation

Use separate injection sites for repeat doses

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to penicillins

Infections caused by penicillinase-producing bacteria (unless combined with a beta-lactamase inhibitor)

Important Notes

This is a prescription veterinary medication requiring veterinary oversight

Proper withdrawal periods must be observed before slaughter

Store according to manufacturer’s instructions

Shake well before use (for suspension formulations)

Use aseptic technique during administration Longamox 100ml
